Bratislava, Slovakia September 5, 2017

We decided to jot down to Bratislava for a day. At only a little over an hour away it is a great day trip from Vienna. We took a bus as it was such a short trip and opted for Flixbus. At just, 8 Euro it took us right into the city center and included free WIFI. On the way back we took a RegioJet bus back for the grand sum of 5 Euro. This too had free WIFI but also had free coffee/cappuccino! They also sold ½ liter of wine for .50 Euro! We were sure it was lovely, but decided the Kofola (the local version of Coca-Cola) was the better option- not sure we were right…

Bratislava does have a small but very nice downtown with its own mix of historical homes and austere Soviet era block buildings. The ‘old town’ part of Bratislava is quite beautiful with its twisty, café lined streets, old city walls, and beautiful architecture. Bratislava has a great mix of historical and also new sculptures throughout the old town, which adds additional character and some whimsy to what could otherwise be seen to be just another city in central Europe.

Well worth the quick visit. As we stayed only the day we cannot say too much about Bratislava as we did not exactly wander far into the city. Research did not turn up much to do in the city either so not sure it would be a place to spend an extended amount of time. Bratislava gave us some great food (garlic soup and beer!) and a nice walk through the streets, but alas we just had peek at what this city might be able to offer.
