We left Vienna on Thursday, September 7, and headed to Prague on the 1:09PM train. The journey was pleasant with very few stops and reasonable scenery. Once in Prague, the transition from train to subway was smooth, as we made our way to our Airbnb Londynska apartment, our home for a week. The place was huge and quite nice.
So, you would think that, while in Prague, we would definitely see the following: the Old Town Square, Charles Bridge, the many observation towers and Prague Castle – hurriedly walk through it, no, no, and nope! The crowds in the tourist areas were crazy! At one point, while trying to walk across one end of the Old Town to another, we hit a pedestrian traffic jam. We were literally stopped. We quickly scurried out of there.
So what did we do instead? We took long walks along the beautiful walkways of the Vltava river, and in our own neighbourhoods of New Town and Vinohrady, to admire the architecture (everywhere) and views, especially the sunset views in Riegrovy Park. To get us fueled up for these day-long walks we would hit our favourite coffee shop, Kavarna Prazirna, each morning and have our morning double espresso lattes. Yum! I’m ready for my 10K walk now!
On Saturday, we took the subway to see the Kolbenova Flea Market, the biggest the Czech Republic (and some say in Europe). It was, by far, the largest space of hawked crap we’d ever seen! The walk through the Prague suburb to get to the market was more enjoyable. Time to move on! We made our way by tram – very easy to navigate – to the other side of the river to Letna Park for wonderful views of the Old Town. At the entrance of the park, we were greeted by “county fair-like” festivities: an orchestra and dancers in traditional custumes, a petting zoo, and a rabbit jumping competition. Go, bunny, go!
On Wednesday, September 13, we took a side-trip to Kutna Hora. After that, it was time to move on. There was much more to see and do. We’ll be back, Prague, we’ll be back!
